Governor Abbott made headlines by vetoing a bill to ban THC products in Texas. That move sparked celebration in some corners and outrage in others—but here’s what’s not getting enough attention:
⚠️ Redistricting. The kind that happens mid-decade, outside the usual timeline, and often behind closed doors.
Here’s the thing: 70% of Texans support keeping THC legal—with strict regulation. Only 16% want a total ban. That makes the drama over hemp and gummies feel less like a fight for public safety—and more like a distraction.
So what isn’t getting talked about while THC steals the spotlight? Redistricting.
A Bait-and-Switch in Plain Sight?
Governor Abbott has called a special session starting July 21 to address the THC veto and a few other bills he recently blocked. But Trump-aligned Republicans are openly pressuring him to add redistricting to the session—and the Governor hasn’t ruled it out.
Redistricting is supposed to follow the U.S. Census, which happens every 10 years. Texas last redrew its congressional maps in 2021. There’s no new population data, no constitutional mandate—just a political opportunity.
If redistricting is added to the agenda, it would:
Let legislators redraw maps ahead of the 2026 midterms
Shield incumbents from competitive races
Further dilute the power of swing districts and communities of color
Sound familiar? Tarrant County just did the same thing. The Commissioners Court rammed through a mid-decade redistricting plan this month, weakening Democratic representation in Precinct 2. Now some Texas Republicans want to do it again—this time at the federal level.
Why This Matters
If you’re angry about losing access to THC products, you should be even angrier about losing access to fair representation. This isn’t just policy—it’s power. And it’s being maneuvered in the shadows.
The truth is, they can ban your gummies and redraw your district—all in one session.
What You Can Do:
📞 Call your state lawmakers. Tell them redistricting doesn’t belong in this session.
🗓️ Watch the session starting July 21. The agenda can be expanded at any time.
📢 Share this post. Help your friends and neighbors see what’s really at stake.
Don’t let the THC debate distract you from the power grabs happening behind the curtain. Texas deserves transparency, not tricks.
Let’s stay loud. Let’s stay sharp. Let’s not fall for the bait-and-switch.
